The Showing Council's Judges & Officials' Accident Insurance Policy
Showing Council's Accident policy offers essential accident coverage for Judges and Officials while they are officiating at affiliated events. This policy is designed to ensure peace of mind, allowing officials to focus on their responsibilities, without the worry of unforeseen incidents. Their safety is our priority, and we are committed to providing the necessary support in the event of an accident.
The following Member Bodies have joined the Combined Accident Policy:
-
British Driving Society
-
British Miniature Horse Society
-
British Palomino Society
-
Irish Draught Horse Society
-
Lusitano Breed Society of Great Britain
-
Northern Counties Ponies Association
-
Shire Horse Society
-
Side Saddle Association
-
Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain
-
Veteran Horse Society
Judges' will be covered when judging at a show affiliated to the Member Body, and both Judges & Officials will be covered when officiating at a Member Bodies own event, i.e. Show, Judges' Assessment Day, Judges' Conference etc.
It is important that Judges check they are covered when accepting a judging appointment.
Things to consider:
-
Is the Show affiliated
-
If so, to which organisations
-
Are all the classes you have been asked judge affiliated
If in doubt, check with the Show Secretary by email, so you have something in writing.
You are not covered if:
-
The Show is not affiliated
-
The Class/Classes are not affiliated
The Show may claim to have their own insurance but this needs to be an "Accident Policy", not an "Employers Liability Insurance Policy" or similar type of liability insurance policy; ask to see a copy of their policy.
If it is a form of "liability" insurance, you will have to prove liability before any compensation is paid to you, this may:
-
Take you two to three years or more to prove
-
Cost you £35,000 plus in legal fees and court costs
-
And you may not win your case
